[04] What is the composition of the RDC Board of Directors?

As defined in Section 3.01 of the RDC Bylaws, "Membership on the Board of the Middle Georgia Regional Development Center shall be determined in the following manner.  There shall be four (4) Board members who reside within each county served by this RDC who shall be selected as follows:

(a) The Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners for each member county served by this RDC shall be the County Board Member unless he or she declines to serve in which event the Board of Commissioners of the county shall select another of its members to serve in his or her stead;

(b) The governing bodies of the municipalities located within each member county served by this RDC shall collectively select one (1) elected municipal government official to serve as the Municipal Board member; provided, however, that the Municipal Board Member from Bibb County shall be an elected official from the City of Macon;

(c) The County Board Member and the Municipal Board Member for each member county served by this RDC shall select a resident of the county who is not an elected or appointed official or employee of an county or municipality to serve as the Non-public Board Member; and

(d) The County Board Member and the Municipal Board Member for each member county served by this RDC shall select a resident of the county who is an elected county or municipal official to serve as the Minority Board Member.  Minority is defined as follows:

a. "American Indian or Alaskan Native" refers to a person who has origins in any of the original people of North America and who maintains cultural identification through tribal affiliation or community recognition.

b. "Asian or Pacific Islander" refers to a person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, or the Pacific Islands, including, for example, persons from China, Japan, Korea, the Philippine Islands, and Samoa.

c. "Black not of Hispanic Origin" refers to a person having origin in any of the Black racial groups of Africa.

d. "Hispanic" refers to a person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race."

In addition, the State Department of Community Affairs (DCA) appoints one non-voting regional representative to serve on the RDC Board.
